Taking a history

During your initial consultation you will have the opportunity to speak to your Sports Therapist about your visit. We will take a detailed medical history, including information about your lifestyle and pervious medical conditions - it is important to be honest and try not to overlook small details you may feel are not important (the more information, the better!)

Knowing as much as we can about you allows us to identify posisble causes of your injury, as well as factors which might place you at greater risk of a re-occurance. Once we know this, we can take steps to address the root problem, rather than just the immediate injury.

Testing Muscles and Ligaments

After discussing and logging your history, we will examine how you respond to various movements. Testing the muscles, ligaments and palpating tissues can be tender and sometimes painful, this is because the therapist uses a range of movements to stress the tissues into recreating a symptom which could be a pain or a weakness.

Muscle and ligaments tears are graded into 3 groups depending on the stage of the injury:
Grade 1- mild damage to the tissues, ranging from 2-4 weeks for recovery.
Grade 2- more extensive damage to the tissue but not completely ruptured, often ranging from 2-3 months for recovery.
Grade 3- complete rupture of a muscle, tendon or ligament. Surgery will most likely be required, with recovery ranging from 6-12 months.
After testing the therapist will grade the injury and provide treatment, guidance and support to suit your needs.

Once muscle and ligament testing have been performed, specials tests are used to confirm or deny a more specific condition.

Injury Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation or rehab for short, is the action of restoring someone back to health or normal life, this is usually through training and therapy. Rehab is used for recovery from an injury and for the management of long-term conditions. Depending on the severity of the injury, rehabilitation can range from 4 weeks to 1 year.

Rehabilitation should start as soon as possible to speed recovery. The programs are combined with many different components which include;

  • Massage therapy
  • Joint Mobilisations
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Strengthening exercise
  • Taping
  • Proprioception exercise

Customer Testimonial

Excellent service, I suffered a nasty ankle injury while out running and expected a lengthy recovery, but after just a few weeks of therapy I was back walking normally, and now 6 weeks later I am back running.
